This is an exciting time to join Phu Bia Mining.  Our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation is in its fifth year of production, our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation commenced production in 2012 and we have a pipeline of exploration projects in Laos.

This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.  Phu Kham is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 65,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually.  The process plant, recently upgraded to a design capacity of 16 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation.
Reporting to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing day to day, on the job support and coaching to the Lao Supervisors in leading their teams to maintain high levels of availability and reliability of the electrical systems and instrumentation across the process plant. Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills will be critical to your success in developing the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your key responsibilities will include: 
  • Provide ‘hands on’ support, development, mentoring, training and guidance to the Lao Supervisors in the field
  • Work with the Supervisors to identify, develop and implement electrical & instrumentation initiatives to improve plant performance and optimise associated costs
  • Work with the Supervisors to ensure 100% compliance with all statutory codes, acts, regulations and standards pertaining to day to day maintenance activities
  • Provide assistance in the design, development and execution of project work
  • Carry out all day to day activities ethically, responsibly and in accordance with recognised best practices in order to lead by example
  • Develop and maintain a culture focused on delivering “best practice” maintenance and safety outcomes
To be successful in this role, you will require: 
  • Degree level qualification in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 10 years' supervisory experience in electrical & instrumentation maintenance for minerals processing plant with a strong background in instrumentation preferred
  • Strong understanding of modern maintenance systems, planning and scheduling processes
  • Proven success in training and developing staff in a developing country
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with proven experience in Pronto, SAP or similar, is desirable
  • Unwavering safety focus coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
